Youth Soccer
Something to Think About"

By Paul Hazard
CYSA State Coaching Director

"Children and grownups belong to different worlds. Time, which deals so ruthlessly with the body, is only too often just as pitiless with the soul. Adults are rarely free; they are prisoners of themselves. Even when they play. It is self-consciously and for a reason. They seldom play for the sheer joy of playing. How far removed is the world of childhood! Its inhabitants seem of another species. Tireless, full of exuberance, from morning to night they run, shout, quarrel, make up and fall asleep only to begin again next day at sunrise. Children are rich with all they do not own, rich with the potential wonders of their universe. Making believe is not only one of their vital pleasures, it is their vital spark, the token of their liberty. Reason does not curb them, for they have not yet learned its restraints. Happy beings, they live in the clouds, playing light-heartedly without a care."
