I am proud to be a FUNdamental Soccer proponent and am spending more and more time teaching the game. I recently accepted a position with the Turlock Youth Soccer Association as Coaching Coordinator.
I have put together an extensive curriculum to the board and it was accepted. It entails building a youth program that teaches our coaches how to help our youth enjoy the game. We have 10 age group coordinators contacting past and prospective coaches during the week. We have over 50 coaches that want to take courses in April and May.
Our mission:
The TYSA age group coordinators will have open dialog and feedback with every coach, we will provide a coaching curriculum that enhances fundamental success for coaches/players, and all coaches are licensed to improve the love of the game for our youth.
I am also doing Monday evening clinics free to the public for the Turlock area youth. We had over 20 youth players last night(our second Monday), and by word of mouth it is growing. Guess what method I am using?
The FUNdamental Soccer 'Nine Step Practice Routine!'
From the telephone calls that I am getting, I fully expect this to grow each week. The players range in age from three to 15 years old. I have an assistant coach working with the older's, and two U15 ODP State players working with the younger ages. Everyone is learning from the experience. All of the parents watch and discuss the training.
The best comment was from one of the younger players, Brittany she is about six years old and this was her second time attending. I asked her if she remembered how to set up the cones for the warm up? She told me that she practiced it all week because her daddy bought her and her younger sister (Katlan), cones, shin guards, and soccer shoes! The magic words for the day were "Scooby & Doo".
The older age group asked to work on their "magic"! When warming up, doing the figure eight's, they work on their different moves, we are calling it magic. The next session is on volleys. You would be amazed at the excitement.
I am also starting the Don Greer 7v7 Spring Playing league in District VIII. Since the players are looking for something different in the spring season, in-door, whatever, something different. I came up with a proposal for a 7v7 league. It was approved it and now we have over 40 teams in the age groups for U10-U14 girls and boys that will begin play April 5th.
FUNdamental Soccer Response - Coach Kevin Alan 'Thank You' for making the FUNdamental Soccer 'Nine Step Practice Routine' the Turlock curriculum and much success in this venture. We look forward to reading about your and the players progress in the future!
