"Training Players To Play 'Dirty'"

Editorial Responce

Coaches teaching/training players to play "dirty" is nothing new to the sport. I know of entire clubs, from first hand viewing of training sessions, that train their players to physically abuse and foul their opponents.

We run our boys and girls tournaments as FIFA Fair Play Tournaments (Placer United SC) and I have many coaches comment that this is "sissy" stuff and the good teams will never come. Well, we do it anyway and we clearly ask our coaches to follow the rules of fair play. The immature and overly aggressive coaches still have a lot to learn, but if we persist in our demands they will either learn it or be dismissed from coaching children, as well they should be.
