"Canned Practices" For Bored Players?
Koach Karl - Still more from Coach John Anagnost…
Coach Rice,
I would argue that the "canned practices" aren't going to solve the problems you are having. You still have to explain what you need, and do the drills in the canned practice. Those canned practices aren't going to make a girl who doesn't participate, participate any more than the 9 step method.
From time to time I see a good small sided game from one of those coaching clinics, and I will use them when needed. Always be on the lookout for new things. But another practice method isn't going to solve the problems.
The bottom line is that if you think practices are a little boring, trying shortening the Figure 8's at the beginning, spend a bit more time on the 1v1's and small sided games, and I think you'll be fine.
And don't get too worried about boredom. Kids can play the same video games for hours, as long as their are new levels for them to master. By introducing new moves, feints, small sided games, etc. on a regular basis, you can keep kids learning and interested at the same time.
Koach Karl - We highly encourage you to continue studying the game and when you find an Individual, Pair, Small Sided Game or Scrimmage idea that you like and think will benefit your team…Then immediatly incorporate that idea into Your '9-Step Routine!.
